With his 39 million Facebook friends and 24.4 million Twitter followers, pop superstar and golf nut Niall Horan will be one of the most popular people in the grounds during his second trip to Augusta National this year.
The One Direction star is big mates with lots of the players, notably Rory McIlroy, whom he caddied for in last year’s Par-3 Tournament (even hitting a shot, which found the water). We caught up with him ahead of his trip back up Magnolia Lane, to find out what it’s like.
Did Augusta live up to the hype?
It far exceeded expectations! It really is the most magical and special place and I enjoyed every second of the week. What were your first impressions? I was amazed by the place. I love the traditions of the tournament and Augusta itself. I was fortunate to meet members Tripp Rackley and John Carr, who have since become friends and every time you speak to them they have different stories and tales to tell. It’s hard to really put into words the aura Augusta National has. The course has a lot more undulations than it appears on television, too.
How scary was that shot in the Par 3?
It was intense. I wasn’t expecting to hit a shot, but Rory made me! I’ll get my payback on him at some point…
What was the highlight of the week?
Impossible to say. From driving up Magnolia Lane, to caddying in the Par 3 to meeting Arnold Palmer. Too many great memories.
Did you get much stick for your little slipup in front of the Sky cameras?
I did – but I’m not the first guy to fall at the feet of Kirsty Gallacher!
Did you walk the main course with Rory?
I walked with both Rory and Justin Rose, who is also a close friend. I also tried to see all the Irish boys to show my support.
Where was the best spot to watch from?
The course has many areas, but nothing beats Augusta Sunday when the closing groups walk up the 18th.
What was your favourite hole?
I loved seeing Amen Corner. You hear so much about it so was fantastic seeing that.
Did you get any souvenirs?
I think I went to the shop most days. I still use the Masters phone cover now.
What’s your favourite Masters memory?
Just watching it back home in Mullingar with my father when I was growing up. It brings back amazing memories.
Who’s your money on this year?
It’s so unpredictable now as the game has so many strong players and you saw that last year with how the No.1 spot kept changing. European golf is in a great place and hopefully these players will continue to inspire young kids to take the game up. That’s why I love what the Masters do alongside the USGA and PGA of America with the Drive Chip Putt Championship. To get more seven to 15-year-olds into such a cool sport will ensure we continue to have amazing talent coming through the ranks.

A month ago, Variety confirmed Styles’ casting in Christopher Nolan’s latest project ‘Dunkirk’, which centers on the British military evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk in 1940.
The Wrap has now confirmed Harry Styles will play a ‘significant role’ alongside Aneurin Barnard, Jack Lowden, and Fionn Whitehead. The last one being cast in what could best be described as the lead role of the project but sources say the script is ensemble in nature.
According to Deadline, who broke the news about Styles’ joining the cast, Nolan and his co-producer and partner Emma Thomas, “oversaw an extensive casting process for the film, with virtually every young British and Irish actor putting themselves on tape for this”.
Nolan was said to be looking for unknowns for the leading roles, thereby giving scores of young actors “the hope of a once-in-a-lifetime big break to nab a major role with a visionary filmmaker”.
However, Nolan has also enlisted some familiar faces for the supporting roles with pal Tom Hardy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) and newcomers to his world Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance. The director’s longtime collaborator Cillian Murphy is the latest one to join the ensemble made up largely of unknowns.
“Dunkirk” will be shot on a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography for maximum image quality and high-impact immersion. The shooting is set to begin in May using many of the real locations of the true-life events, which form the background for the story.

One Direction singer Harry Styles and Fionn Whitehead will star in Christopher Nolan’s World War II action-drama “Dunkirk.”
They join Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh in the film, which centers on the British military evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk in 1940. “Dunkirk” will mark their feature film debuts.
Variety reported exclusively in December that Nolan had come on to direct and produce the film with his longtime partner Emma Thomas. They have been conducting an extensive casting search.
“Dunkirk” will be shot on a combination of Imax 65mm and 65mm large format film. Shooting will begin in May at many of the locations where the true-life events actually took place.
A quickly-assembled British fleet of more than 800 boats saved more than 335,00 soldiers who had been cut off by the German Army. As the rescue was concluding, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill told Parliament, “We shall fight on beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.”
“Dunkirk” hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
Styles, 22, joined the group One Direction in 2010. The band, which has released four albums, was the subject of the 2013 Morgan Spurlock documentary “One Direction: This Is Us,” which grossed $68 million worldwide.
Newcomer Whitehead appeared in ITV’s three-part horror-drama “Him.”
The news about the offer to Styles was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
Mark Ronson is a rare producer whose work bears his authorial signature whether Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse or Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker feature as vocalists. Riding high from his Record of the Year GRAMMY win for “Uptown Funk”, Ronson has his selection of collaborators for “whatever’s next.” He’s working with Lady Gaga this year and told GQ he’d happily make music with Harry Styles.
“Yes, absolutely,” Ronson said over lunch at the Ivy in Los Angeles. “He seems like he has something genuine to say.”
However, with his pick of talent to collaborate with, Ronson says he’s learning to be choosier about the things he says “yes” to. He is, after all, only one guy.
“Someone gave me a good piece of advice recently,” he said. “For all the things you say ‘yes’ to, if you had to do these things tomorrow, rather in a few months time, would you still agree to do it?”
One Direction takes a walk down memory lane in their new video for “History,” but the song isn’t so much about revisiting the past, as it is about closing the door on it.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Liam Payne revealed that “more than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone has created this massive thing — One Direction — over the past five years. Out of ‘History’ comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction.”
The last music video to be released by One Direction until they return from hiatus, “History” is loaded with nostalgic behind-the-scenes footage of the band mates — including former member Zayn Malik — throughout their career. The three minute video features everything from the guys’ auditions for The X Factor to their final performance as a five-some, and serves as a fitting — but hopefully not final — farewell to fans.
Payne and longtime One Direction collaborator Julian Bunetta actually enlisted fans to contribute to the chorus of the single, which is off their fifth album, Made in the A.M.
“It’s really great because obviously that song is mainly about the fans and what they’ve done,” the singer told EW. “I think it was important that they were a part of it, to close the album.”
After the confirmation of “Infinity” as their latest single as a group, the guys of One Direction have changed their mind and have decided to released “History” as the third official single from their recent album “Made In the A.M.”
Check out the single cover (click to view full size):
The song was written by Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Ed Drewett and Wayne Hector, and it was promoted a lot during the pre and after the release of the album along their second single “Perfect”.
The proper music video was finally premiered through Vevo on Tuesday January 26th.
